Palace pootle to a point

Look, I was drunk Okay? Thus I have only very vague memories of this game and most of them were shouting at the stewards for taking a last minute decision to let people sit where they liked and not tell anyone. Meant I couldn’t sit amongst the compnay of other drunkards and had to sit amongst respectable people and try to behave.

Various messages on the internet would suggest I didn’t mange this very well. I blame the refree and linesman myself. Even in my inebriated state I could see that Darren Ward made contact outside the box, but no, not the officials right there on the spot. They had to award Leicester a penalty which of course they scored.

But what about our goal, you ask? Hmm, yes well, I remember the corner being taken (I thought it was Borrowdale taking it, but it was since proved to be Kennedy) I remember the goal sailing goalwards, I remember celebrating like a loony. It was only the next day when I read on the Internet that the ball didn’t got straight in from Cort’s header, no sirree it hit the woodwork and bounced back, for Tom Soares to finish it off. I must have been celebrating like a loony for a good few seconds before the ball actually found the net. Good job it did too, otherwise I’d have looked an even bigger prawn.

After another half time row with the stewards, the second half past in a blur, I remember us being on top, but without ever looking like we were capable of scoring, although I do recall the ball striking the woodwork (at least I think that was at the right end) and Dougie missing a 1:1 sitter near the end – no change there then.

I came away with the overall impression that we didn’t go for the jugular, but was soon distracted by the sight of a wizened old Leicester dwarf with a blue face, clearing not playing with the full deck, standing on the corner randomly swearing about Peter Taylor. So I did what any self-disrespecting Palace drunkard would do I went and joined in.
